Dental implants vs dentures: what’s the best option for missing teeth in Worcester?

When replacing missing teeth, patients are often faced with a choice between dental implants and dentures. Both options have their place, but they offer very different experiences in terms of comfort, stability, and long-term outcomes.

At St Peter’s Dental Practice, we regularly help patients in Worcester understand the differences so they can make a confident, informed decision.

Dentures have been used for many years and can be a suitable solution for some patients. They are removable and can replace multiple missing teeth, restoring appearance and basic function. However, they can sometimes feel less secure, particularly when eating or speaking, and may require adjustments over time.

Dental implants offer a more permanent alternative. By placing a titanium post into the jawbone, implants provide a stable foundation for replacement teeth that feel and function much like natural teeth. This stability is one of the key reasons many patients prefer implants.

Another important difference is how each option affects the jawbone. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone can gradually shrink. Dental implants help preserve this bone, whereas dentures do not provide the same stimulation.

From a day-to-day perspective, implants often feel more natural. There’s no need to remove them, and they don’t rely on adhesives. Patients can eat a wider range of foods comfortably and with confidence.

That said, implants are not always the right choice for everyone. Factors such as general health, bone density, and personal preference all play a role. This is why a detailed consultation is essential.

At our Worcester practice, we take time to understand your situation fully before recommending any treatment. Whether implants or dentures are the better option, our goal is always the same: to restore function, comfort, and confidence in your smile.
