Cosmetic Dental Treatment
At St Peter’s Dental
Practice we fully appreciate the importance of a healthy and attractive smile.
We understand how the appearance of your teeth can greatly affect the way you
feel about yourself. We will listen sympathetically to your concerns and advise
you on the best way to achieve your desired result.
We are able to offer a wide range of cosmetic treatments using the latest in
dental technology including:
Tooth Whitening
Teeth can be restored to their natural colour by tooth whitening. This can
be achieved at home using a gel placed in small trays that are
worn over the teeth or in our surgery using power whitening.
These techniques produce an improvement in the brightness of the teeth with only
minimal treatment.
Orthodontics
With the use of the advanced Invisalign system, there is no longer any need to
have unsightly metal brackets and wires that need continual adjustments.
Invisalign is the nearly invisible technique for straightening your teeth giving
you the ideal smile. Please contact the practice to arrange a meeting with our
resident Orthodontic Specialist Dr Babita Kainth.
Tooth Coloured Fillings
There are now many techniques available to restore a broken or decayed tooth
using a tooth coloured filling material. Here at St Peter's we use
both composite and porcelain restorations. Both these filling materials are
matched to your own natural tooth colour. They are bonded by a special adhesive
into your tooth, adding to the retention of the filling and sealing the tooth.
Veneers
A veneer is a fine facing made of porcelain which is bonded onto your
natural tooth. The primary function is to improve the appearance and they will
involve a little preparation of your own natural tooth. Veneers can be used
in cases where the teeth are chipped, discoloured or crowded. They are most
frequently used on your upper or lower front teeth. Veneers are used by many
celebrities to improve their appearance and smile. It is possible to choose the
colour and shape of your teeth prior to undergoing treatment. The procedure is
undertaken with local anaesthetic and the veneers are normally returned from the
technician after 1-2 weeks.
Crowns
A crown is a covering placed over the top of your own natural tooth to restore
it for both the function and aesthetics. Crowns will greatly enhance the
appearance of heavily filled, chipped, discoloured or misshapen teeth. In some
cases they can be used to correct a malalignment of teeth where braces are not
an option.
Bridges
A bridge is used as a permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. They
are both aesthetic and functional, restoring your natural bite and preventing
unwanted movement of the adjacent teeth and over eruption of the tooth opposite
the gap. In simple terms they can be viewed as crowns joined together and
cemented on the supporting teeth, with a fixed false tooth in between to "bridge
the gap". They are a very desirable alternative to a removable partial denture.
